Festival Amadeus 2010 in Whitefish and Kalispell

Enjoy "Mountains by Day, Music by Night " at the 2010 Festival Amadeus which celebrates the music of Mozart, Brahms, Haydn, Beethoven, among other composers.

John Zoltek, Music Director of the Glacier Symphony and Chorale, has selected internationally acclaimed guest artist, Joel Fan, piano, and the Canadian duo of Heidi Krutzen, harp and Lorna McGhee, flute to perform. Joining them will be The Bridger String Quartet of Bozeman, the Glacier String Quartet of Kalispell and musicians of the Festival Amadeus Orchestra.

The Festival is the only week-long classical music series in Northwest Montana and includes a chamber music camp for young musicians, presented by North Valley Music School in Whitefish. Camp Festival Amadeus is designed for early intermediate to advanced string musicians entering 7th through 12th grades. Campers will also have the opportunity to observe narrated rehearsals by the Festival Amadeus musicians. Visit the Website www.northvalleymusicschool.org for information and registration.

August 2-8, 2010 the GSC will present Festival Amadeus 2010, Montana’s only weeklong classical music event. In its third season, Festival Amadeus brings world-class musicians together in the intimate concert setting of the O’Shaughnessy Theater in Whitefish for five nights of events and Chamber music concert, Two orchestra concerts will be held in the acoustically dramatic, Christian Center, in Kalispell.

New to the festival this year will two orchestra concerts in Kalispell featuring the Festival Amadeus Orchestra with three guest artists. Also new this year will be “Harmony of the World” an evening of choreographic work set to music spanning the Baroque to the 20th Century, performed by the Karin Stevens Dance Company www.karinstevensdance.com of Seattle, WA. Performed by a 16-piece string orchestra at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish, the evening promises to be a delightful addition to the classical repertoire.

Featured guest musicians for the Festival will be pianist Joel Fan, www.joelfanmusic.com who recently toured with renowned cellist, Yo-Yo Ma, as a member of the Silk Road Ensemble and the duo of Lorna McGhee, flute and Heidi Krutzen, harp, www.krutzenmcgheeduo.com both of Vancouver B.C. The duo has played at many of the premiere chamber music festivals in North America including a gala performance of Mozart's Flute and Harp concerto at the 2004 National Flute Association Convention.

Completing the orchestra roster will be two string quartets, the Bridger Quartet of Bozeman, MT and the Glacier String Quartet of Kalispell, MT. along with Jonas VanDyke, French horn and Megan MeClendon, violin, both musicians with the New World Symphony in Florida; Lucas Poe Kaiser, a cellist based in Missoula, MT; Marian English Ward, a viola player from Portland, OR; and selected principle musicians from the Glacier Symphony.

In conjunction with the Festival, a weeklong music camp Camp Festival Amadeus, is organized by the North Valley Music School providing students age 9 to 12th grade an opportunity to observe and learn directly from the professional musicians.

Festival Amadeus is also a convivial social week starting with the opening night “Evening with the Artists” talk led by Music Director John Zoltek, and continuing throughout the week with social hours after each event where concert goers get a chance to rub elbows with the musicians. It is Montana hospitality at its best, easy informality and superb performances, in the spectacular mountain setting of the Flathead Valley.
