The Bar U Ranch spills eastward from the Rocky Mountains across the rolling grasslands of Alberta’s Highway 22 Cowboy Trail. Now a national historic site, the Bar U transports you back into an era when horse-drawn chuck wagons followed cattle drives, rather than race each other around a rodeo track.
Set in the rolling foothills, the Bar U Ranch commemorates the history and importance of ranching in Canada. The site has 35 buildings and structures, illustrating various stages of ranching development, and is rich in cultural landscape features. A Visitor Orientation Centre and a vibrant living history program interpret a time when the West was young.
In keeping with the themes and eras represented on the ranch, Pekisko Creek General Store stocks various items by local artists and crafts people. Quality items include home preserves, sewing, knitting, woodwork, handmade soap, candles and Friends of the Bar U promotional items.
The Bar U Ranch Roadhouse Restaurant welcomes you with the aroma of fresh baked goods. The menu offers homemade ranch meals such as cow camp stew, homemade soup, sourdough biscuits and buffalo burgers.
