Chain Lakes Provincial Park is set within Canada's last large expanse of mostly undisturbed montane landscape. A slightly fractured band of montane habitat extends from Chain Lakes south to Beauvais Lake Provincial Park.
The park's lakes and proximity to the barrier of the Rocky Mountains make it a favoured migration stop-over for eagle, osprey and trumpeter swans. Visiting carnivores include cougars, lynx, grey wolves, and both black and grizzly bears.
Access is from the intersection of Alberta Highway 22 and Secondary Highway 533 from Nanton, Alberta.
The lakes are stocked with rainbow trout for boat fishing in spring, summer and autumn and ice fishing in winter.
The antique collectors' mecca of Nanton is a short, beautiful drive directly south from the park on Secondary Highway 533.
There are 125 campsites including 27 with electricity hookups.
Swimming, sailing, windsurfing, and 12 km/hr power boating are encouraged.
Group camping by reservation at 403 646 3131.
Year round camping. Convenience and snack store open May-September.
From Alberta Highway 2, drive north from Nanton to the end of rural road 533 at its intersection with Alberta Highway 22.
From Alberta Highway 22 40 km south of Longview, turn west at intersection with Secondary Highway 533.
