This little lake caught between Alberta Highway 3 and Sentry Mountain is, seasonally, an extension of Crowsnest Lake. When water levels are low, it is an autonomous, deep basin. In late spring, a small cave in the cliff face emits an ephemeral fall.

Rarely fished, Emerald Lake is reputed to shelter a population of native cutthroat trout, as well as residual lake and rainbow trout from early, ill-advised introductions of non-native species.

This could be good for a quick paddle, but the constant traffic of Provincial Highway 3 disqualifies it as a wilderness experience.

Turn off Provincial Highway 3 at Alberta Tourism information centre. Turn immediately right on gravel access road and continue along the old highway right of way to Emerald Lake.

Canoes, kayaks, and electrically motored boats are permitted.

A steep road leads to a boat launch on the south side of the lake.
