Description of Group or Organizational Experience

The rugged backcountry of Glacier National Park forms one of the only large tracts of secure grizzly habitat left. As part of the Crown of the Continent ecosystem where the Rocky Mountains cross the U.S.-Canadian border, you'll be exploring some of the best grizzly bear habitat in North America.

Join world renowned bear researcher Chuck Jonkel to experience the life of grizzlies and black bears and learn about their behavior from the signs they leave behind. Course participants will head straight into the heart of grizzly country to view grizzly habitat -- and perhaps a bear or two if you're lucky -- in locations throughout the park.

Approximately 1300 grizzly bears roam the heart of the Rocky Mountains where Montana meets southern Alberta and British Columbia. Perhaps better than anyone, Chuck Jonkel knows where they roam and why they’re there. A veteran biologist who has spent vast stretches of time in the wild, Chuck has taken on the grizled, gruff mannerisms of the great bruin itself. This only enriches his field courses for the Great Bear Foundation, Glacier Institute, Nature Conservancy, and Waterton Natural History Association.
