Your reward at the end of a 3 km (2 mi) walking trail is rarely-viewed Josephine Falls, a 25 metre (83 foot) tumble of foaming water set in a secluded canyon landscape.
5 kilometres east of Elkford (located on Highway 43)
Breathtaking Josephine Falls cascades 25 metres (83 ft) down a steep canyon carved by the Fording River. This picturesque waterfall was discovered in 1905 by Professor Henry F. Osborn and his family, and named in honour of Miss Josephine Osborn, a sweet maid in her teens, who caught the largest trout thus far recorded from that spot. Josephine Falls is the destination of Elkford's most popular trail, a moderate hike. Once at the trailhead, proceed to the Falls which are about 2.3 km. The falls are quite impressive even in mid summer and in a dry year. From the falls you have a couple additional trail options.
Once you arrive in Elkford (located on Highway 43), turn east at the four way stop onto the Fording Road. Follow this road for 5 kilometres (3 mi) and watch for Josephine Falls signage at parking lot. Follow the Forests, Falls and Lakes trail to Josephine Falls.
