Folks assemble in Augusta for plenty of reasons: to access a million acres of unspoiled, rugged beauty in the high country, to chat with old friends on Main Street, and to shop at Latigo and Lace, a gallery of regional fine art and handcrafts where you can find good books, antler carvings, photography of the area, unusual pottery, hand woven rugs and baskets by local artists, beautiful quilted and sewn things, jewelry, Indian beadwork, and vests with hand painted scenes with silk ribbon embroidery.
Even if you're not a shopper, take a much needed break from the road at the Cappuccino Bar, where you can soak up information as well as a latte or Italian soda.
Latigo and Lace sponsors the annual Augusta Rodeo Art Show the last weekend of June. "Montana: Wet and Wild," opens Saturday, June 28 at 4 p.m. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Montana Land Reliance in support of working ranches and open space on the beautiful Rocky Mountain Front. See attached poster.
The Old West lingers in Augusta's cow country saloons such as the Buckhorn Bar, where backcountry wranglers swap tales with cowboys and visitors. But mosey over to the Latigo and Lace cappuccino bar and art gallery, and you're in a different era, pardner.
Themed ‘Montana 1900', Latigo & Lace dresses up Main Street with its western storefront complete with barn wood siding, cedar shakes and a distinctive sign above the door. To promote and support the many artists who live in the region, Latigo & Lace has found wonderful and unusual things that reflect the old western heritage of the area, as well as interest in the local scenery and wildlife.
May - December, Daily from 9:30 - 6:30pm * March - April, Wednesday - Sunday: 10:00am - 5:00pm
Open: March - December, Closed: January - February
Latigo and Lace is on Highway 287, the shortest and most scenic route between Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. It's just 55 miles west of Great Falls, 80 miles north of Helena, and 110 miles south of Glacier National Park.
