Description of Lake or River

The Livingstone River parallels Forestry Trunk Road 40 south from the intersection with Secondary Highway 532 to its merger with the Oldman River near Dutch Creek Recreation Area.

Access to Lake or River

Dirt-Road, High Clearance Vehicle

Fishing Highlights

Native cutthroat trout dominate the Livingstone River. Too small for drift boats, this is an exceptionally picturesque river sufficiently removed from the road to provide a near-wilderness angling experience.

Paddling Highlights

Early season kayaking is the main paddling attraction, starting at Livingstone Falls. Moderately skilled paddlers can put in below the Class III falls for a Class II run to the confluence with the Oldman River. It is best to scout a take-out point in advance.

Driving Directions from Nearest Town or Landmark

The Livingston River parallels the Forestry Trunk Road, south from Secondary Highway 532, which connects to Highway 22 north of Chain Lakes Provincial Park.

Fishing Access Highlights

The river's cutthroat trout fishery is easily accessed from the Forestry Trunk Road. Numerous tracks lead from the road to the river's edge. Random rustic camping is permitted.
