Description of Lake or River

Lower Waterton Lake is the smallest and northernmost of the three Waterton Lakes. It is easily visible and accessible just inside the entrance to Waterton Lakes National Park.

Northern pike and lake trout inhabit Lower Waterton Lake.

Paddling Highlights

Smaller and calmer than the bigger Waterton Lakes, this one is best for canoes and kayaks. Reedy shorelines provide superior opportunities for paddling birders.

Driving Directions from Nearest Town or Landmark

From Pincher Creek, AB, drive south on Provincial Highway 6 nearly to the junction with Secondary Highway 5. Look for the road heading south along the west side of Maskinonge Lake.

From Cardston, AB, drive west on Provincial Highway 5, turn west onto Provincial Highway 6, then look for the road down the west side of Maskinonge Lake.
