Montana House sponsors free monthly evening presentations on Crown of the Continent topics by noted authors and scientists.
Hans & Toni Jungster established the Montana House Regional Craft Shop in 1960 at Apgar Village, Glacier National Park. Their daughter, Monica continues to carry on their mission to celebrate and promote the creativity of Montana, and artists and craftsmen, and to promote the rebirth of Native American artistry. The Montana House has hosted over 450 Montana Artists since 1960.
Hans Jungster left Germany in 1936, and served in the U.S. ski troops,10th Mtn Division, in World War II. Hans met Toni at the University of Washington, in Seattle, and together they came to Montana in 1947 on a botany field trip. Hans became a Park Service Ranger in the early 1950's and the Jungsters moved to Glacier Park, drawn by its similarity to Switzerland. The Montana House was built in a "Swiss Chalet" style.

From the west entrance to Glacier Park turn left onto Going-to-the-Sun- Road, then turn right into Apgar Village at the foot of Lake McDonald.
I came to the site hoping to be able to order Christmas presents on line for distant family members (those unfortunate enough to live elsewhere!) Sadly, I didn't find any way to do this. Each year we enjoy browsing in your shop (especially during autumn and winter when the area is less crowded and more serene). It is a very welcoming atmosphere with unique and high quality gifts. We especially enjoy the library, the hot coffee and native crafts. Your prices are reasonable and the goods are truly unique. Thank you for staying open year around!
