Built at Goat Haunt, Montana, the wooden-hulled International never motors far from home. Climb aboard the vessel that since 1928 has shuttled 1.5 million visitors across the liquid border shimmering between its port of birth and Waterton Park townsite in Alberta.
Join a scenic cruise from Canada to the United States. Enjoy some of the most spectacular mountain scenery the Rocky Mountains have to offer. View majestic towering cliffs, unique geological formations, beautiful waterfalls, snow clad mountain peaks and the International Border. Bring your camera; tour boats make photographic and wildlife stops. Bald eagle, bear, moose, deer, mountain sheep and mountain goats are often seen.
Several day hikes are accessible from the Goat Haunt Ranger Station. All hikes require more than the ½ hour stopover included in each cruise, thus hikers will be required to catch a later boat back to Waterton townsite.
The shoreline cruise vessels feature indoor and outdoor seating, twin-powered motors for safety, and are Coast Guard Certified each year. The company's flagship is the 200-passenger Historic M.V. "International" which was constructed in 1927 and certified by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Canadian Coast Guard the following year. Step aboard this classic vessel and cruise back into the history of the International Peace Park.
The cruise is accompanied by an informative and entertaining commentary given by experienced tour guides. The duration of the cruise is 2 and ¼ hours, which includes a ½ hour stop at Goat Haunt – the northern gateway to Glacier National Park. Debark at this beautiful, sheltered, uncommercialized area to experience the visitor center which exhibits park history, flora and fauna. U.S. Immigration allows Canadian and U.S. citizens with proper ID to remain at Goat Haunt to hike. The most popular hike at Goat Haunt is Kootenai Lakes. Kootenai Lakes is only 4 km from Goat Haunt and is considered among the best moose habitat in the park.
The Crypt Lake hike features a 15 minute boat ride across Upper Waterton Lake to the trailhead at Crypt Landing. The trail passes close to 4 spectacular waterfalls: Hell Roaring Falls (1 km), Twin Falls (3.5 km), Burnt Rock Falls (5.6 km) and Crypt Falls (8 km). A highlight for many is the steel ladder and 60 foot tunnel through the mountain. After a short maneuver around a cliff (with cable for added security), hikers arrive at beautiful Crypt Lake.
