June 21, 2011
On June 21, Canadians from all walks of life are invited to participate in the many National Aboriginal Day events that will be taking place from coast to coast to coast. St. Eugene Resort, near Cranbrook, is proud to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, culture and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Metis people of Canada.
Fisher Peak towering in the distance, the Kootenay River tumbling nearby and surrounding prairie grasslands provide a dramatic setting for this daylong event. Starting at 11:30, a variety of colourful, entertaining and informative events will delight participants of all ages. Learn more about the Ktunaxa culture through story-telling and dance presentations. Watch a basket weaving demonstration or the raising of a tipi. Take a tour of the Red Brick School or observe an archaeological dig. Aboriginal games will take place throughout the day. Savour the aromas and tastes of traditional fry bread, which along with a barbeque, will be available for a fee.
This day is an opportunity for Aboriginal groups to showcase and share their diverse cultural heritage. It is a great opportunity for all Canadians to learn about the traditions and outstanding contributions of Aboriginal peoples across this country.
To get into the spirit of things, the Purcell Grill located at the Golf Resort is featuring a month long celebration of aboriginal cuisine. Join Guest Chef Rob Brown as he prepares dishes such as candied salmon and smoked bison ribeye steak.
