Nature’s Healers: Wild Medicinal Identification
LAT: 48.4961
LON: -114.0075
Elevation: 3133 FT (955 M)
Description of Group or Organizational Experience

Thriving in Glacier’s riparian, meadow, and old growth habitats are many important medicinal herbs. This course will focus on identification, medicinal value, native and historic uses of plants. Join botanist Heather Nack-Culbreth to discover how Glacier's wild plants directly benefit humans.

The course will begin by exploring along the banks of the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, move into the forests and meadows around Field Camp and end with an excursion to the Avalanche Creek area to view powerful plants such as Devil’s Club and “Grandmother” Cedar used by Native Americans. Harvesting takes place outside of Glacier National Park.

If you are also interested in learning how to harvest and prepare medicinal herbs, be sure to sign up for Heather's companion course the next day, June 22: Making Wild Herbal Medicines.
