From the time when dinosaurs were the chief occupants to the present
North America’s original transcontinental highway, the Old North Trail is said by some to be the pathway used by migrants from Siberia to populate the Americas. Known for certain is the trail’s use for millennia by native peoples moving north or south along the Rocky Mountain Front.
The Old Trail Museum is a great place to visit to understand what the area was like 65 million years ago. Besides the fabulous dinosaur exhibits, the Old Trail Museum features the history of the Rocky Mountain Front, famous authors and outfitters, grizzly bears, a sheep-herders wagon, Indian artifacts and the history of the Metis people.
Located at the north end of Choteau, on US Highway 89, the non-profit museum reflects the rich natural and cultural history of Montana's pristine Rocky Mountain Front region. Explore fossils, dinosaurs, Native American artifacts, grizzly bears, and the diverse and colorful local history. Other exhibits include A.B. Guthrie, Jr., Old Agency on the Teton, Jesse Gleason's art studio, the Old North Trail, Metis people, and Choteau's last hanging. Don't miss 'Dinosaurs of the Two Medicine,' the Old Trail Museum's new paleontology gallery! After touring the museum enjoy an ice cream from the ice cream parlor located in the visitor center. There are shaded picnic tables for your convenience.
The Dinosaur Antechamber – the paleontology gallery – showcases discoveries from the area’s Two Medicine Formation: a Maiasaura and Einosaurus skull along with nestling, hatchling and teenage Maiasaura skeletons and bones; a Sauronitholestes skeleton cast (the meat-eating bird robber), dinosaur footprints, marine fossils, “touch” bones and more. A prep lab display and geologic information about the Rocky Mountain Front and Willow Creek Anticline are also here.

This is a great place to visit. Unfortunately, the map spot on the Locator map is not accurate. The museum is on Main Street at the north end of Choteau.
