Spend some time at the friendliest little plaza in Montana. Experience a small town with the feel of the old west. The Blackfoot Challenge interpretive center in tiny Ovando shows you how ranchers, anglers, and public agencies allied to save 80,000 natural acres (32,000 hectares) from exurban sprawl. Next door is the Brand Bar Museum.
Ovando, Montana is the perfect scenic blend of old and new. One hundred year old buildings nestled onto the beautiful valley floor with the Swan and Garnet mountains rising from its edges. Hundreds of thousands of acres of open ranch country surround you. Just by strolling the streets you will walk through a piece of Montana history and culture. Ovando came into existence in the 1870's and '80's as a pioneer town..Ranching and lumber were and remain the mainstays of the economy. Ovando is a historical site and on the Lewis and Clark Trail. Today recreational fishing, hunting hiking, backpacking into the Scapegoat Wilderness, snow-mobiling, cross country skiing, and snow shoeing attract visitors and residents alike. Ovando has inns and ranches to stay at and restaurants to eat from.
Key events include the Old West Christmas Fest, late September Lincoln Rod Run. Streets Rods, Muscle Cars, Classic Cars run the roads from Lincoln, to Helmville to Ovando on a Poker Run, and 4th of July Celebrations.
Spring/summer fishing and hiking; Fall hunting; Winter snow-mobiling.

Visited the Cowboy Christmas Fest three years ago and it's on my bucket list to return and enjoy some of the other surrounding activities and stay longer. In fact, I'd love to retire there :) but real estate seems hard to find.
