It takes a village of volunteers to run the Museum at Central School, which preserves and presents the history of Northwest Montana. Currently more than 80 volunteers keep the growing non-profit running smoothly. If you are interested in history and helping to preserve it, or in being a part of the museums community service, this is a great place to volunteer. They have stimulating and interesting work from a few hours a week or month, all the way to nearly full time help.
1. 3 to 4 hour weekly shifts at the museum welcome desk or gift shop, helping visitors, answering the phone, stuffing and addressing envelopes. 2. Working with artifacts, documents, records and photographs in the museum's collections and acquisitions department, checking in items, recording in computer software records program, storing and organizing collections. 3. Be a museum docent--a tour guide for some of the more than 2000 local school students who visit the museum annually, or special tours for seniors from assisted living facilities. The museum provides information and training for new docents. 4. Help with buildings and grounds--maintenance work on the fully restored 115 year-old building, and outside yard work, including the new Native Plants Garden.
