I recently visited the Prince of Wales Hotel. While Mr. Occhiogrosso makes some fair points, I found the staff to be professional as well as courteous. I suspect that Mr. Occhiogrosso visited early in the season when new staff were on the steep part of the learning curve. By August, I found little to fault in the way of service. A night at the Prince of Wales is an experience that can't be matched anywhere else. It is a bit pricey, but it will be an experience you'll never forget. The setting and architecture produce memories that will last a lifetime.

The hotel is architecturally beautiful and is located on a bluff with a breathtaking view of the lake and mountains. The structure, however, is in dire need of restoration. the repairs and renovation work that has been done was poorly executed and not at all in keeping with the period architecture. The hotel is poorly managed and the staff, while friendly and courtious, is undertrained. There are no amenites to speak of; not even a chair to sit on outside to enjoy the view. The elevator is operated by the bellhop who is off duty from 10 pm to 9 am, an important piece of information to know if your on one the upper floors and need to check in or out during that time period...we learned the hard way. My advice is to visit and take photos but stay elsewhere and save yourself the $300 per night; it's not worth it.
