Too bad i didn't get to see the Royal Hotel when my Mom and Stepfather owned it Their names were Marge and Fred Atkinson. They owned it in the 80s..they are both dead now but I often wondered why my parents would buy something so far away from vancouver... .... anyways one day I will check it out..

The brass pole...I haven't ever seen it...too bad though; it would be lots of fun when dancing to the beats of the great DJ's The Rockin R Bar always has. As for the story about the patron: fernie's full of ghost stories... they're not all true.

Brief Description of Establishment

Good after-ski bar and restaurant in centenarian hotel, formerly reputed for naughtiness. Brass dance pole is now a foot rail along the bar. Storied past includes tale that an early hotelier dragged a dead guest to the railway track to avoid embarrassment of police inquiry.
