July 17, 2009 - July 19, 2009
Rum Runners Days is an annual festival in Crowsnest Pass featuring a parade, family activities and a top-notch fireworks display.
The Crowsnest Pass has a rich and storied history, and this festival celebrates its history as an epicentre for smuggling alcohol into the United States during Prohibition. The stories of Crowsnest Pass include some of Canada’s most catastrophic disasters such as the Frank Slide and the Hillcrest Mine disaster, the remarkable engineering feat of the Crowsnest Railroad, the Sentinel Train Robbery and the melting pot of miners and merchants from every corner of the world.
The festival highlight is the gigantic fireworks display put on by the Blairmore Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday night about 11 pm . The guys raise money via donations and fundraising activities (Yuk Yuk’s comedy night being the biggest) all year to pay for the beautiful display they design and execute.
Good locations to view: On the field below the ski hill or on the hill east of the golf course.
