Glacier’s blanket of snow reveals a frenzy of footprints, offering glimpses of wildlife activity that goes otherwise unseen. Join Glacier Institute instructor Brian Baxter on a three to four mile (round trip) snowshoe focusing on the forest carnivores that remain active in the winter, such as lynx, fisher, pine marten, mountain lion, and wolverines interpreting the tracks, signs and stories that they leave behind.
Snowshoes will be provided or you may bring your own.
A slide show will begin your exploration of over 40 species of North American Wildlife. The show includes photographs from Brian’s wildlife research projects studying lynx, wolverine, fisher, marten and other target species. You will then venture off on snowshoes to learn the art of tracking. Along the way you will stop to investigate the various signs left behind by taking measurements of tracks, identifying other signs left by the animals, and building the story of what happened. Lunch will be in the field and you should return to our vehicles by 4:30 p.m.
