Every year crews from Glacier National Park begin plowing the Going-to-the-Sun Road and other roads in the park.
Park plow crews were expected to clear the Chief Mountain Road last week and the target date for starting the Sun Road on the west side at Lake McDonald Lodge is April 1. April 1 is a Wednesday. Last year the road opened completely on July 2, the latest peacetime opening ever (it opened later one year during WWII) because crews were dogged by late spring snowstorms and avalanches.
After the Chief Mountain Road is done, plows usually drop down to Many Glacier, then Two Medicine, then back to the Sun Road. The weather plays a huge role in this, of course.
