Type of Action

Help stop the spread of invasive weeds (spotted knapweed) on the Rocky Mountain Front.

What You Can Do

“Weed Whacker Rodeos” whip up on weeds. A broad spectrum of agencies head up the "Teton Canyon Weed Whacker Rodeo" attracting wranglers of all ages to pull spotted knapweed in the Teton River drainage. Door prizes and awards in categories like tallest plant, longest root and youngest weed puller set the mood to hand-pull literally tons of spotted knapweed. A 50¢ per pound bounty for kids inspired young wackers to uproot more than $600 worth of weeds last year.

The 2008 "Teton Canyon Weed Whacker Rodeo" is scheduled for July 19th. See you there!

What the Result Will Be

Exotic plants/invasive weeds are causing harm to native plant communities rendering land unfit for agriculture, forestry, livestock, wildlife or other beneficial uses. With Weed Trust funding, the Teton Canyon Weed Whacker Rodeo focuses on sensitive sites such as trail heads, parking areas and campsites which are likely to spread seeds to other areas of the canyon and river drainage. With more hands pulling, it's possible that spotted knapweed will meet its match and native plants will, once again, have "the upper hand."
