Route Description

The views along the road from Burmis to the West Branch of the Castle River evoke the romantic veneration of rural life by the great landscape artists of 19th century Europe. Fields of green and gold roll across hills and valleys, many still dotted with the ruins of pioneer cabins and barns.

Starting Milemarker or Town

Highway 3 at Burmis, or Highway 507 at Pincher Creek.

Points of Interest and Highlights along the Drive

The only settlement is Beaver Mines, at the junction of Secondary Highways 507 and 774. A stop at the Beaver Mines General Store is pretty much mandatory. The road terminates at Castle Mountain Resort, a wintertime destination for skiier's seeking dramatic terrain and tranquil base facilities. In other seasons, the journey itself is the objective.
