This is a storybook high-country lake well-worth the short hike from the nearest parking area.
Hike, Walk or Horse-Pack To
Fly casting from shore is a treat because of the all-enveloping scenery. Small rainbow trout may or may not cooperate, but no matter. Stalking them, rod in hand, from the shoreline trail that surrounds the lake is pure pleasure in itself.
The lake is too far from the trailhead to portage canoe or kayak.
Look north from Highway 3 for the landmark hole perforating Mount Ward, the striking geological feature that gives Window Lake its name. Window Lake lies on the opposite side of the mountain.
From Alberta Highway 3, take Allison Creek Road north 16.8 km (10.5 mi). Look for a rough dirt logging track on the west side of the road and drive it as far as you dare. Carrying bear spray may make you feel more confident on the steep, narrow trail to the lake.
No boat access.
A narrow trail circumnavigates the lake. The lake bottom continues the precipitous incline of the surrounding shoreline so wading is just about impossible. Cast from dry land, enjoy the view, and don't expect much in the way of active fish. But if you need to add high-country lake fishing to your angling journal, this experience is worth it.

I still use the view of this lake as a place to go to in peace duriing meditation.
