Description of Event

The magnificent upper Columbia Valley in the Canadian Rockies is the setting for a 7-day celebration that welcomes over 265 species of birds back home to the rich wetlands that flank the mighty Columbia River.

Wings Over the Rockies Bird Festival offers over 50, high quality, creative and educational events to enjoy with the whole family. Discover the world of birds through activities such as guided nature walks, Columbia River floats, paddling the wetlands, horseback riding in the grasslands, art exhibits, evening presentations, workshops, children's festival, Wings gala banquet, birdathons and much more.

Rise and Shine and greet the day with the birds around Pynelogs Cultural Centre and Dorothy Lake, near the shore of Lake Windermere, and perhaps pick up a new bird call or two.

This year, Wings Over the Rockies promoted "Citizens for Science" as a theme, where the public not only enjoys watching birds but gathers valuable information for bird conservation. Check back for the 2010 theme as next year's event draws nearer.
