Jack and Karen Hooker of WTR Outfitters have made it their life's pursuit to take people into the most spectacular wilderness in America – the one and a half million acres of Rocky Mountain high country in the Bob Marshall, Scapegoat and Great Bear Wilderness Areas. If you want to see the West the way Lewis and Clark did, you still can.
WTR Outfitters is Montana's oldest continually operating wilderness outfitting business, so their knowledge of the wilderness is amazing. Jack and Karen purchased this outfitting business in 1969 from the legendary Tom Edwards, who began leading trips into these mountains even before they were officially designated as the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area.
When Tom first established his White Tail Ranch in 1937, he created the 3-Bar-E brand to represent the three E's, as in Edwards—himself, his wife and his son. More than sixty years later, horses and mules with the 3-Bar-E brand are still carrying people and their supplies into the wilderness.
WTR guests travel "The Bob" on portions of 2000 plus miles of trails each year. Travel by horseback, like Lewis and Clark, guided by Montana's oldest wilderness outfitting business and Montana elk hunting guides.
Offering summer Montana wilderness pack trips complete with Montana fly fishing, wilderness photography, horsemanship, survival trips and wilderness exploration. On your pack trip into the Bob Marshall Wilderness, Scapegoat Wilderness or Great Bear Wilderness areas you may see elk, deer, bear, moose, bald eagles, the Chinese Wall, abundant wildflowers and views as far as the eye can see. Trips are different each year as to show guests new country not often seen by the average traveler.
Jack and Karen specialize in Montana adventure trips that "rove" crossing the Continental Divide. Guests tent camp near a different river, lake, or mountain meadow almost every night. Sometimes spending 2 nights at the same location so you can enjoy fly fishing, a special side ride (like to the top of the Chinese Wall), take a nature hike to see animals like elk and the floral and fauna, or just relax in camp for the day. Enjoy great meals prepared in camp with fresh food packed along on your trips by sure footed mules.
Also available; area nature observation trips or Montana eco-trips at our Danaher Valley Base Camp in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. On these trips guests take day rides on horseback exploring the wonders of nature. A professional naturalist will teach you about the high country ecosystem, the wildlife (like elk), the plants, the fish, the geology and climate in a hands-on ecology workshop. You'll also learn about the history of the area, including Native Americans, explorers and mountain men who trekked across the wilderness.

I'VE BEEN ON TWO TRIPS WITH WTR OUTFITTERS AND BOTH WERE
GREAT. JACK, KAREN AND THEIR STAFF ARE VERY WELCOMING,
INFORMATIVE AND SAFETY CONSCIOUS. IT WAS THE ULTIMATE
WILDERNESS EXPERIENCE.
